*NOTE* If the browser version fails you can always download the standalone version. It looks like the level load might be too much for some browsers. In any case, thank you for trying :)

This is my submission for GMTK Game Jam 2020.

In this game you defend last of the world's forests against crazed harvesting robots!

Trees keep you alive. When you walk away from the circle around them, your oxygen level plummets (a blue health bar appears temporarily). Once your oxygen reaches 0, you lose health very quickly (health is the green bar).

Bad Robots gobble trees, and damage you slightly. Big robots have smaller robot minions loosely following them. Once you kill a big robot, his minions become friendly and start to plant trees on their own. A small black box appears where the big robot died. The minions are now following that box, and you can pick it up and drop it anywhere.

Your goal is to capture all the checkpoints that are spread across the forest nodes. Levels are randomly generated - some only have 2 checkpoints but they can have up to 5.  Checkpoints are the colored squares on the ground. Blue is captured, Red is not. Green is your spawn point.

Now yes, there are many tuning issues (among others lol) and you can just casually walk from one checkpoint to the next if you want, in most cases at least. The intended game play is for the player to create a safe passage between checkpoints by defending trees and taking control of small robots.

Controls:

WASD to move

CLICK to smash bad

SPACE (near a beacon) to pick it up or drop it.

SPACE (near checkpoint) to set spawn point

Game made with Unity, Models with Blender and sounds with Ableton and Cubase.

Both HTML and Windows builds are available to play.

For some reason the music didn't play... Didn't really understand how the game fits the theme

Nice music and i like its 3D, But i did not know what to do, so i would appreciate some tutorial. Other than tha nice game.

(+1)

Haha +1 for spawn camped in single player game. For a one person project, this was such a huge undertaking! Really impressive how much you got in, from animation, sounds, models, code! Congratulations! For constructive feedback, even after reading the instructions I was a little unclear of what I would be doing, so just jumped in, hoping to figure it out. Blue bar is oxygen, and when you run out, it starts degrading your health. I would have liked more feedback on what was happening there. My first time dying was because I ran out of health from suffocating (I think), but it was at the same time I engaged my first big robot and it touched me. I couldn't really tell what was affecting me, which was frustrating.

I love the idea of this game! I think I also would have liked to have been eased into it a bit more. Like a smaller level to learn what was happening, where I had to plant x amount of trees, and then the next level take over y amount of robots. That would have helped provide me a lot of guidance.

Great work though friend! Would love to see more of this!

didnt know you could get spawned camped in a single player game

I'm playing browser and I can't get past the menu?

Same on Firefox, loved the concept though.

I played the browser version and it ran fine.

Its a nice idea, took me a moment to realise that I was running out of oxygen. Once I figured out why I was dying I quite enjoyed it. I agree with Bokonon that I'd have liked the action to be a little faster, but its still a pretty cool job!

unable to get past the menu

browser or standalone version?

Pretty cool for a solo project- I would like it more if the camera was centered on the player character and the action was a little faster.
